Economic Inclusivity in Focus: Cash Transactions to be Mandatory in Snohomish County.
In a unanimous decision, the Snohomish County Council in Washington state has passed an ordinance requiring businesses in unincorporated parts of the county to accept cash payments from 2025. Aimed at promoting economic inclusivity and ensuring that vulnerable populations such as children, the elderly, and the homeless aren't left out, the ordinance has garnered appreciation for its bipartisan nature. Businesses can apply for exemptions based on specific criteria. Violating businesses, after two warnings, will be fined, starting at $250 with repeated violations escalating to $700.

Tragedy at Snohomish County Jail Leads to Heightened Security Measures.
An inmate from the high-security unit of the Snohomish County Jail was discovered unresponsive on Wednesday just after 11 a.m. Attempts by the medical team to resuscitate him were in vain. The inmate faced grave charges, including first-degree murder. Following the incident, inmates in the same module underwent comprehensive security checks, revealing one inmate in possession of a bag containing a substance believed to be fentanyl. Amid concerns over drug smuggling and the increasing presence of fentanyl, the jail is considering bolstering its preventive measures with a drug-detection canine.

Unprecedented Fury: Hurricane Otis Leaves Trail of Devastation in Acapulco.
Acapulco witnessed the devastating impact of Hurricane Otis, a record-setting Category 5 storm, which left 27 individuals dead and four missing. Officials and military personnel faced initial hindrances in their relief efforts due to the severity of the damages. Entire structures, including high-rises, were dismantled, and extensive road flooding was observed. The city's power and water infrastructure were severely affected, with efforts ongoing to restore them. A significant portion of Acapulco's hotels, crucial to its tourist economy, faced damages. However, emergency relocation services have been provided to tourists. The rapid intensification of Otis, transforming from a tropical storm to a Category 5 hurricane in just 12 hours, was unanticipated, underscoring potential links to the broader climate crisis affecting the globe.

The “Four Hat” Riddle
The “four hat” riddle begins with four prisoners who have all been lined up, one behind the other and all facing in the same direction. The first (prisoner A) has been separated from the others by an impenetrable brick wall. The others (prisoners B, C and D) have all been lined up facing the brick wall. Each of the prisoners is wearing a hat. Two of the hats are white, and two are black, but no one knows the color of his own hat.
Now, here’s the sinister kicker: All the prisoners will be killed unless one calls out the correct color of his own hat within 10 minutes. The prisoners are not allowed to confer with one another, nor are they allowed to move around or change position.
Fortunately for all, just before the stopwatch strikes 10 minutes, one prisoner correctly calls out the color of his own hat. Your job, should you accept the challenge of the “four hat” riddle, is to figure out which prisoner it was.
Just to clarify: There is only one correct answer. In this scenario, only one of the prisoners could possibly have come up with the correct answer, and he has, in fact, done so.
Answer will be in the next issue.
