Tragedy and Triumph: Remembering the Tacoma Narrows Bridge 83 Years On

Eighty-three years ago today, the Tacoma Narrows Bridge disaster occurred when "Galloping Gertie" fell into the Narrows after a windstorm. Despite the bridge's advanced design and substantial cost, it failed shortly after opening. A Washington University professor had previously recommended design changes to allow wind to pass through, which were ignored. The collapse resulted in the loss of a vehicle and a dog and stands as a cautionary tale in engineering history.

Ski-Masked Assailant on Metro Bus Takes Life, Leaves Community Reeling

On a local bus ride turned tragic, Miguel Rivera Dominguez is alleged to have shot Marcel Wagner without prior interaction. Dominguez, masked and armed, seemingly targeted Wagner who was resting in his seat. The incident, recorded by bus security cameras, shows Dominguez firing multiple rounds into Wagner, startling other passengers including Dominguez's own acquaintance. After demanding the bus driver to open the doors and shooting them when they didn't, Dominguez fled and changed his clothes. He was later identified through school security footage and is charged with first-degree murder and illegal firearm possession.
