Join us for Heroes and Hoops to support your local first responders while raising donations for Seattle Children's Hospital and Toys for Tots! Game day is set for Saturday, Dec. 9, at Marysville Getchell High School (8301 84th St. NE).
“We deeply value opportunities like working with our public safety partners at the Marysville Fire District to build community, help give back to our residents, and benefit these great charities,” said Marysville Police Department Chief Erik Scairpon.
Schedule of events:
3:30 p.m. – Tulalip Tribal Police Department vs. Toys for Tots basketball game
5 p.m. - 3-point contest
6 p.m. - Police vs. Fire basketball game
Members of the Marysville Police Officers Association will compete against the Marysville Professional Firefighters, Local 3219. Bring a toy donation to receive a free raffle ticket. All toy donations go to Toys for Tots, and event proceeds benefit the Seattle Children's Hospital. Online donations can be made with the comment code “Heroes and Hoops”.
This family-friendly event will also feature local vendors and food trucks for shopping and delicious bites. Last year, Marysville Police took home the win. How will this friendly rivalry play out for 2023? Cheer on your local first responders and help make a positive impact on the lives of children in need.

Hostage Release and Ceasefire: A Glimmer of Hope in Israel-Hamas Conflict
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is urging his government to approve a deal for the release of hostages held by Hamas, with negotiations involving Qatar, the U.S., Israel, and Hamas nearing completion. The deal proposes exchanging 50 Israeli hostages, mainly women and children, for 150 Palestinian prisoners, and a 4-5 day ceasefire for humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza. This follows an October 7 incursion by Hamas, during which over 200 hostages were taken and 1,200 people were killed, as per Israeli counts. The conflict has led to significant Israeli bombardments in Gaza, causing 13,300 civilian deaths and widespread displacement. Islamic Jihad, also involved in the October 7 raid, announced the death of an Israeli hostage, blaming Israeli delays. Despite the focus on hostage release, hostilities and casualties continue, especially in Gaza's Jabalia refugee camp and Khan Younis.

Yesterday’s Answer: 86 pounds
Yes, you read that right — a whopping 86 pounds. According to Guinness, a turkey named Tyson who weighed 86 pounds was sold at a charity auction in London in 1989 for about $6,692. For comparison, a typical Thanksgiving turkey usually weighs around 15 pounds.
