Snohomish County Proposes $250,000 Grant to Marysville for Flood Mitigation Studies
A proposed ordinance by the Snohomish County Council seeks to allocate $250,000 to Marysville for flood mitigation, focusing on dike studies and sea level rise impacts. This funding is part of a larger $2 million federal grant also benefiting Stanwood. The plan, in response to recent severe flooding and increasing concerns over climate change, aims to strengthen the city's flood defense systems and prepare for future environmental challenges.

Global Leaders Commit to Fossil Fuel Phase-Out in Pivotal COP28 Deal
At the COP28 summit in Dubai, a historic deal was reached by nearly 200 countries to reduce global fossil fuel consumption. This agreement marks a unified global effort to transition away from fossil fuels, essential for mitigating climate change. Despite opposition from some oil-producing nations, the deal gained support from a diverse coalition, including small island states and major oil producers. The agreement sets a pathway to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, aligning with existing global trends towards greener economies. However, it allows flexibility for each country's implementation, and there are concerns about the adequacy of financial support for developing nations in transitioning to clean energy.
