Holiday Season Aid: Snohomish County Channels $3M to Fight Hunger

Snohomish County is allocating nearly $3 million from federal funds to its Food Bank Coalition, aiming to alleviate food insecurity affecting 9% of its residents. This effort, intensified during the holiday season, is part of the county's broader goal to reduce food insecurity to 6% by 2030. The funding will support 18 food banks serving 650,000 residents and distribute about 26.5 million pounds of food. While SNAP provides aid, 45% of the food-insecure population doesn't qualify for such assistance, highlighting the significance of this initiative.

Police Action in Downtown Everett Leads to Multiple Drug-Related Arrests

The Everett Police Department's focused operation in a troubled downtown Everett neighborhood resulted in multiple arrests for narcotics violations. They seized 505 fentanyl pills and over $2,000 in cash. A mistreated puppy was also rescued and taken to a shelter. The intervention, part of ongoing efforts to address community concerns, was met with local residents' support and appreciation.

Chaos in Prague: Student's Deadly Assault on University Claims 14 Lives

A student at Charles University in Prague carried out a mass shooting in the philosophy department, resulting in 14 deaths and over 20 injuries, marking the Czech Republic's deadliest such incident. The shooter, who also died, is suspected of earlier murders, including that of his father. The motive remains unknown, and authorities have increased security measures in response. The incident has sparked widespread shock and mourning, both nationally and internationally.

BAKED FRENCH TOAST

INGREDIENTS

1 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted

3 teaspoons Ground Cinnamon, divided

3 tart apples, such as Granny Smith, peeled, cored and thinly sliced

1/2 cup dried cranberries substitution Substitutions available

1 loaf Italian bread, cut into 1-inch slices

6 eggs

1 1/2 cups milk

1 tablespoon All Natural Pure Vanilla Extract

INSTRUCTIONS

1 Mix brown sugar, butter and 1 teaspoon of the cinnamon in 13x9-inch baking dish. Add apples and cranberries; stir to coat well. Spread evenly in bottom of baking dish. Arrange slices of bread on top.

2 Mix eggs, milk, vanilla and remaining 2 teaspoons cinnamon until well blended. Pour mixture over bread, soaking bread completely. Cover with foil. Refrigerate 4 hours or up to 24 hours.

3 Preheat oven to 375°F. Bake, covered, 45 minutes. Uncover and bake 5 minutes longer. Let stand 5 minutes before serving. For an eye-catching presentation, loosen edges with small knife. Invert onto large serving platter.
