Terror Strikes Iran: ISIS Claims Responsibility for Historic Attack, Death Toll Rises

Islamic State claimed responsibility for two explosions at a memorial in Iran, killing nearly 100 and wounding 284. The attack, marking the anniversary of commander Qassem Soleimani's death, led to Iranian vows of retaliation and calls for mass protests. The United Nations Security Council condemned the attack. Experts suggest the involvement of ISIS-Khorasan, an ISIS branch in Afghanistan. Previous ISIS attacks in Iran include a 2022 shrine bombing and 2017 twin bombings. The U.S. denied involvement, viewing it as an ISIS-style terrorist attack. The incident occurs amid renewed Israel-Gaza hostilities.
