Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg calls for Boeing to significantly transform its safety and manufacturing quality amid numerous government investigations. Following a serious incident with a Boeing 737 Max jetliner and a subsequent DOJ investigation into a separate Alaska Airlines jet incident, Buttigieg stresses the necessity for Boeing's full cooperation with all probing entities. Boeing pledges complete cooperation, focusing on safety and quality improvements, while Alaska Airlines also cooperates with investigations. The FAA has put production limits on Boeing, demanding a plan to rectify quality-control issues.

Washington Expands Police Pursuit Powers in Response to Public Demand

Washington State Legislature has passed Ballot Initiative 2113, expanding police powers to pursue suspects with reasonable suspicion of any law violation, broadening the scope beyond violent or specific offenses. This legislative change, effective June 6, is a response to public demand for stronger law enforcement measures against criminals who exploit current pursuit limitations. The initiative, driven by public and law enforcement advocacy, aims to enhance public safety, although challenges with pre-trial detainment persist.

Citizenship Law Excluding Muslims Takes Effect, Challenging India's Secular Ethos

The Modi government has initiated the enforcement of the 2019 Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), targeting non-Muslim refugees for citizenship, sparking debate on India's secular identity. Aimed at Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis, and Christians from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan, the law excludes Muslims, raising concerns over discrimination and the potential marginalization of India's large Muslim minority. Critics view this as an attempt to undermine secular principles, while the government defends it as a humanitarian measure. The announcement comes amidst widespread criticism and ahead of forthcoming elections, highlighting the law's contentious nature and its implications for India's democratic and secular fabric.
