Authorities Alert on Rising Car Scam Preying on Senior Citizens

The Pierce County Sheriff's Office warns of a new scam targeting elderly individuals, involving a scammer claiming a fake car accident to extort money. A 74-year-old woman from Brookdale was recently deceived by a man who convinced her she hit his car, leading to the theft of $100 and her credit card. The scammer managed a purchase worth $424 before being identified. The scam is noted for its use of a removable black mark, possibly from a shoe, to fabricate vehicle damage, highlighting an alarming trend of exploitation against seniors.
