Checkmate Violence: Seattle's Innovative Chess Program for Kids

Seattle Police Detective Denise Cookie Bouldin initiated the Detective Cookie Chess Classic Tournament in Rainier Beach to offer kids a constructive alternative to violence. The annual event, now in its second year, saw participation from 150 children across Seattle. Bouldin utilizes chess as a tool not just for the game itself but as a means to discuss broader life lessons, including the importance of making positive choices and avoiding violence. The success of the tournament is attributed to the collective effort of the community, including parents and volunteers.

Two admitted guilt, amid signs of torture. The attack, which President Putin vowed to avenge, comes after his re-election and has led to nationwide mourning.
