Ottawa Talks Progress on International Treaty Against Plastic Pollution

Nations recently advanced discussions on a global treaty to address plastic pollution, meeting in Ottawa for the fourth of five negotiation sessions. Key debates focused on whether to limit global plastic production, with strong opposition from plastic-producing sectors. The session marked a transition from discussing ideas to refining the treaty's text, with future talks planned to focus on financing, chemical assessments, and product design. Both industry representatives and scientists actively contributed, highlighting the complexities of reaching a consensus. The final negotiation session is set for later this year in South Korea.
