44 Years After Mount Saint Helens: Advances in Washington's Volcanic Monitoring

Forty-four years after the Mount Saint Helens eruption, Washington has significantly improved its volcanic monitoring capabilities. New stations with advanced sensors are being installed across the Cascades to detect early signs of eruptions. Washington's five major volcanoes—Mt. Baker, Glacier Peak, Mt. Rainier, Mt. Adams, and Mount Saint Helens—are under close watch, with significant upgrades planned for monitoring equipment. While Mount Saint Helens remains the most likely to erupt, Mount Rainier poses a severe risk due to potential lahars.

Early Morning Shooting in West Seattle Leaves One Injured

A shooting in West Seattle near City View Park early Wednesday morning left at least one person injured. Police are investigating the incident, which occurred around 1:26 a.m. near Harbor Avenue SW and Elm Place SW. Information on the circumstances and any arrests is currently limited, and the public has been asked to avoid the area.
