Pedestrian Safety Boosted in Marysville with New Rail Fencing

The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (UTC) has allocated $70,805 from the Grade Crossing Protective Fund to improve pedestrian safety in downtown Marysville, Washington. The project includes installing 850 feet of tamper-resistant metal fencing along the BNSF Railway Co. right-of-way on Cedar Street, between 1st and 4th Streets, to reduce trespassing and guide pedestrians to signalized railroad crossings. This initiative follows several pedestrian near-misses and a fatality in the area. The UTC manages railroad safety, including grade crossing approvals, accident investigations, and safety education through Operation Lifesaver.

U.S. and Allies Divided as Biden Condemns ICC War Crimes Warrants

President Biden's criticism of the ICC's move to seek arrest warrants for Israeli and Hamas leaders has put the U.S. at odds with allies like France and Belgium. Biden and Netanyahu argue that the ICC's actions falsely equate Israel with Hamas, while human rights advocates and some international leaders defend the ICC's independence and criticize Biden's reaction as a double standard.
