Statewide Reduced Pot Limits Implemented for 2024 Dungeness Crab Season

The recreational crabbing season in Puget Sound started on July 1, 2023, with specific areas opening on different dates and restricted to certain days of the week. These regulations are aimed at managing crab populations and ensuring sustainable practices. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) emphasizes safety, particularly during extreme low tides, which can pose challenges for crabbers launching boats​. Moreover, new electronic monitoring requirements will be enforced starting January 1, 2024, to enhance management and enforcement of commercial crabbing activities. This system will track vessel positions and individual pot retrievals automatically​.

Unidentified Man Killed in Downtown Seattle Hit-and-Run

Seattle police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run that occurred in the Denny Triangle neighborhood on Friday night. The incident happened around 9:30 p.m. near the intersection of Olive Way and Minor Avenue. When officers arrived at the scene, they found an unresponsive man lying in the road. Despite efforts from the Seattle Fire Department, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
