Sound Transit Unveils Four New Light Rail Stations in Lynnwood Expansion

Sound Transit is set to open four new light rail stations on August 30th, marking a major expansion of the system into communities outside of King County. The new Lynnwood Link segment, which runs mostly elevated along Interstate 5, offers a fast, smooth, and scenic ride. The stations—Lynnwood City Center, Mountlake Terrace, Shoreline North/185th, and Shoreline South/148th—feature parking facilities, with a fifth station planned for 2026. The expansion brings the region closer to a transit network that reduces reliance on cars, fulfilling a long-term vision despite early opposition.

Fatal Shooting in Seattle's Capitol Hill Sparks Homicide Investigation

A man was fatally shot in the head in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood early Thursday morning. The incident occurred near E Olive St. and 17th Ave., leading to a homicide investigation. The suspect, believed to be a woman, is still at large, but police do not perceive an ongoing threat to the community.

UN and Israel Coordinate Humanitarian Pauses in Gaza for Critical Polio Vaccinations

The WHO has secured an agreement with Israel for temporary pauses in fighting in Gaza to allow for a critical polio vaccination campaign after a baby was diagnosed with the disease. The campaign, starting September 1, aims to vaccinate 640,000 children under 10 across Gaza, with humanitarian pauses from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. over several days. The effort involves over 2,100 health workers and comes in response to the first confirmed polio case in Gaza in 25 years, highlighting the severe public health risks amid ongoing conflict.
