Mount Baker Climbing Solo Ends in Tragedy: Body of Canadian Climber Recovered

A 39-year-old Canadian climber from Squamish, British Columbia, was found dead after attempting a solo climb on Mount Baker in Washington State. The climber, who had set out on the Coleman-Deming route on September 26, was reported missing after failing to check in with his family. Search and rescue operations were launched on September 29 by the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, involving ground teams and helicopters from the U.S. Navy and Customs and Border Protection. However, harsh weather, including thick clouds and steep terrain, hindered initial rescue efforts.

On September 30, rescuers located the climber’s body in a crevasse using data from his satellite communication device. He was declared dead later that day, and the Whatcom County Medical Examiner is investigating the cause of death. Local authorities expressed condolences, calling the situation heartbreaking but were grateful to bring closure to the family.

Snohomish Shooting: Victim Fled Before Being Gunned Down, Two Arrested

Two men, Phoenix Myers Barnes and Alan McLean, were arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a man on September 15 near Snohomish. The victim, who has not been publicly identified, was reportedly using drugs with the suspects before an altercation occurred. McLean assaulted the man, and when the victim tried to flee, Myers Barnes shot him multiple times. Barnes was later arrested for gun possession, and McLean was detained after confessing to police. Both suspects face second-degree murder charges, with bail set at $3 million and $1 million, respectively.
