WSDOT to Close Three Lanes on NB I-5 in Everett Tuesday Night

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will close three lanes on northbound Interstate 5 in Everett on the evening of Tuesday, August 13. The closures will occur between 77th and 61st Streets Southeast, just north of State Route 526, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Crews will be conducting pavement repairs during this time. Drivers are advised to expect delays and exercise caution in the work zone. For real-time traffic updates, commuters can use WSDOT’s mobile app or online travel map.

Lake Stevens Man Charged in Fatal Racing Crash on Highway 9

A 23-year-old man from Lake Stevens, Quinton Rummelhart, has been charged with vehicular homicide for allegedly racing at over 100 mph before crashing into and killing 83-year-old Nancy Merz. The crash occurred on Highway 9, where Rummelhart's Infiniti sedan struck Merz's Honda CR-V, causing fatal injuries. Prosecutors noted that Rummelhart admitted to racing and using cannabis prior to the crash. His blood THC level was below the legal limit, but data revealed he was speeding at 104 mph just before the collision. Arraignment is scheduled for August 19.
