Zoo Says Goodbye to Longtime Resident Suki, an Asian Elephant Icon
Point Defiance Zoo mourns the loss of Suki, a beloved Asian elephant who passed away at nearly 60 years old after battling tuberculosis, arthritis, and tumors. Her care at the zoo exemplified modern elephant management, allowing her to live beyond the average life expectancy. Suki also played a key role in educating visitors about the endangered status of Asian elephants. The zoo plans to continue its conservation efforts in her honor.

Troopers Seek Hit-and-Run Driver After Late-Night Crash on I-5 Ramp
A driver fled the scene after causing a crash involving a motorcyclist and another vehicle on the I-5 exit ramp to State Route 530 in Snohomish County. The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons, while the other driver was uninjured. Authorities are still searching for the driver who left the scene.

Iran Rejects European Plea to Avoid Retaliation After Hamas Leader's Killing
Iran has rejected a request from Britain, France, and Germany to avoid retaliatory actions after the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, calling it an "excessive request." European leaders backed ongoing mediation efforts to end the Israel-Hamas conflict and called for hostages' release and humanitarian aid to Gaza. The conflict has led to nearly 40,000 Palestinian deaths over more than ten months of fighting.
